Today was beautiful in the beginning, though it was windy, but it has begun to rain and the sky is overcast. No stars tonight. If I had AA batteries, I would have taken a picture of the tree in my backyard. It's blooming! There are buds on the branches! I have a big feeling I will be snacking on apples and pears early this year. It reached 50 degrees or higher today. It feels like spring. And it's only January 4! I live in Wisconsin, north of Milwaukee, just off the coast of Lake Michigan. No lake effect here. No 12 inches of snow on average... Oh well.
Today's Wikipedia article was on the "Tonight Show" band. It included its history as well as all the members who have ever performed in it. Interesting to say the least... I was intrigued at the amount of money Wikimedia was receiving from donations...which eventually led me to all the projects they founded and maintain...which lead me to a new project called "Wikiversity". It's a portal that actually holds "classes" like tutorials and other walk-throughs. It's very interesting! I do believe I will be using it quite frequently in the next few years.
The Bible reading for today was Job 1-5. In these chapters, God permits Satan to test Job (sounds like Joe with a b at the end) to prove to Satan that though he may take away everything, he will not turn his face on God. Now, Job is a very wealthy man. He owns thousands of camels and sheep, and his kids party every night. So, Satan controls a band of robbers who come to take away all of the sheep and camels and slay the servents tending them. He also used a strong wind to collapse a house on all of his kids. He found this all out in a 5-minute period of time. He would not turn his face on God. He would not blame God. So, Satan returns to God and said, "If I were to harm his body, he would surely turn his face from you." So, God said he may, but he may not take his life. Job was covered from head to foot in boils. His wife even told him that God is punishing him and that he should blame God for all of his troubles. He basically told her that she is pathetic and he sat. His friends came along and saw all of his pain and suffering and they consoled him, not saying anything but just sat with him for seven days. Eventually, Job cursed the day he was born and wished that he would have been dead, it would be less painful. He still didn't turn his back on God, however. In reply to this, one of his friends told him a story and described that this was all just a test. He will be eternally happy in Heaven. Overall, this was a beautiful piece of scripture and I encourage you all to read it. It's short, maybe even shorter than my paraphrase, hehe. Just type in "Job 1-5" at http://www.biblegateway.com. I read the New Internation Version, the default. This scripture was also used at my grandfather's funeral, as it encourages strength and confidence and trust.
I need to begin (and finish) a 7-page thesis on society's assumptions of the behaviour of men (with support from Shakespeare's Macbeth), which is due tomorrow. Hasta luego.
Stay classy, fellow bloggers.
About My Project
The Mission:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.
The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on your part).
Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past - frequently simple goals such as new year's resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.
Website Info:
This website is simple to navigate around. To view my 101 Goals list, click here. When I complete a task in full or in part (such as visiting one state instead of 50 as a whole), I will make a new post. The posts can be viewed by clicking on the task/book/movie/state. I will describe in detail how and when the task was completed as well as throw in some comments about its difficulty or lack thereof.
